“MAX will move you,” is the slogan for Calgary’s newest transit improvements.
Calgary Transit has introduced the MAX bus routes throughout Calgary with the goal of getting people, “…to major destinations with more convenience, more comfort and more connections than ever before.”
These bus routes began running in November of last year. Since then, the MAX TEAL now serves Mount Royal University.
Students and staff at MRU rely on Calgary Transit to get them to and from school. With all of the promised improvements, some people have yet to see the benefits.
Taylor Jobs is a student at MRU who has taken the same bus route for 10 years that has now been replaced with the MAX TEAL. She doesn’t think that the MAX TEAL is any better than the route she took before.
“I haven’t noticed any skipping of lines and it’s still the same amount of time on the bus.”
Promises such as heated stops with security cameras are meant to make passengers feel safe and comfortable. Yet the bus stops at MRU are not completed. “I’d say I don’t feel safe or comfortable at these stops.”
Calgary Transit has had mixed reviews about the new MAX lines. Some have found that their commute is more direct, where others are confused by the multiple transfers.
There is one more MAX line set to be launched sometime in 2019, but Calgary Transit has not released any specific dates.
As for now, students and staff just have to wait and see what MAX will become.
